David Johnston
Chief Information Systems Officers Association of the California Community Colleges (CISOA) (2025-2026)
David Johnston currently serves as the Director of Information Technology/Chief Information System Officer for the Mendocino-Lake Community College District. His team provides technology services and support to the district’s faculty, staff, administrators, and students. The move to online teaching, learning, and support services in 2020 provided an opportunity to accelerate years of digital transformation in the district over a short period.
He spent 10 years as Vice President of Data Services for the Educational Results Partnership, working on data and research projects with partners that included the Gates Foundation and the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
David previously served as Adjunct Faculty for both Mendocino College and Santa Rosa Junior College, teaching courses in computer science, focusing on networking and the Internet. He has also served as a K-12 technology director, County Office of Education Grant Director, and is adjunct online faculty for Brigham Young University-Idaho.
He earned a BS in computer science from the University of Illinois. He has completed the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) certification from California I.T. In Education (CITE), and the Chief Information Systems Officer (CISO) certification from the California Community College Chief Information Systems Officers Association (CISOA).
